Call Me Fitz - F#¢& City Hall

Call Me Fitz - F#¢& City Hall Tube. Duration : 29.05 Mins.

After losing the Summwerwind Lounge to a Chester Vince-led rezoning ordinance to protect the endangered speckled titmouse, Fitz realizes the only way to get his dream back on track (and beat Chester) is to join the ranks of power and run for public office. Meanwhile, Ken's retirement in Miami isn't going as planned -- his old haunts have been gentrified by the gay mafia and Ken's not going to take it lying down. Especially not with all those rump thumpers around.

How to install a Hard Drive

Deciding On A New Hard Drive

Installing a new hard drive is a pretty uncomplicated task and the actual setup only takes a few minutes to complete. The first thing to be done in this process is buy the new hard drive and make sure that it is compatible with your ideas this can be done by consulting your motherboard by hand and your operating systems guidelines on what hard drives are compatible. You then must determine what storage capacity your new drive must have and any other factors including price you feel you should be taken into consideration when making the purchase.

Hard Drive

Peparing For The Install

Once you have purchased your new hard drive it is time to get ready for the install. I suggest first installing any software that came with your drive. Once this is done it is time to think about safety. First power off the machine (I also suggest unplugging the tower from the power source.) Now take off the cover so that you can entrance the inside of your system. Regularly it only takes the discharge of a few screws and then lifting off the side panel to open the unit, any way some machines differ from this rule and you may even need to take off a front part in order to open the case. Either way once the case is open attach your antistatic bracelet if you have one if not continuously touch the metal covering edges of the case to expel any built up static electricity. This will preclude any sensitive components inside your machine from being damaged.

Setting Jumpers (Only for Ide)

Basically setting jumpers is how you configure the drive you are about to install. It is used to document and set the drive to its permissible settings, for instance if the new drive you are going to setup will be the only gadget on its Ide channel then it needs to be set to single-drive configuration. For a drive that is the first of two it will need to be set as the scholar of the Ide channel, and for a drive that is second on the channel it will need to be configured as the slave. Most often diagrams of the jumper settings will be included on the top of the hard drive case. If not you can find this information in the documentation with your new drive. Once you understand how to set the jumpers you can grab a pair of needle nose forceps and set the jumpers for the configuration of your drive.

Installing The New Drive

First look for an open drive bay Regularly these bays are settled at the front of the tower. If you are replacing an existing hard drive then it is probably best to insert your new hard drive in the bay that your old drive is currently occupying. Unscrewing a few screws and removing the old drive will allow you to entrance the bay to insert the new drive. any way if you are planning to add the new drive while still retaining the old one it is a good custom to keep an open bay in the middle of the two hard drives. The actual mounting of the hard drive differs from case to case some bays are removable and you can take off these and then insert the drive for others the bays are stationary and want you to mount the drive inside the case. Either way the process is not difficult Either you have removed the bay from the enclosure or not the rest of the process is still the same and that is insert the hard drive in the bay being truthful to line up the screw holes and then insert the screws. Once the screws are snuggly in place it is time to replace the bay if you previously removed it.

Connecting The Cables

From here we want to connect the cables. Depending on the type of drive used you are going to need to attach Either an Ide cable or a Sata Cable to your new hard drive. If you are using Ide and replacing an existing hard drive all that is to be done is connect the Cable your old hard drive was using to your new one. any way if you are adding a new hard drive while retaining the existing one you can Either connect both drives to one cable or to cut off cables. For execution reasons I suggest using two cut off cables if possible. The former Ide cable (most likely the one you were already using) should be linked to the fastest drive and the secondary cable should be linked to the slower drive. From this point ensure that the cables are linked properly to the connectors on the mum board if using Ide cables these are big black connectors and pretty hard to miss. Refer to the Drive and mum board manuals for locating these connectors if you are unsure about their location.

After The Install

Now that the hard work is done the only thing left to do is close back up your system, plug it in, and turn it on to verify that the new hard drive is working properly.

That's it you're all done, not so hard after all right!

The Best Sata Hard Drives

The hard drive acronym Sata stands for "Serial developed Technology Attachment" and is well the data transportation gadget or bus that carries the facts between the hard drive and the computer itself. There are many other types of hard drive transport principles such as Parallel Ata or "Pata" and Small Computer Systems Interface or Scsi. These days the majority of computers are utilising the more robust and fast data storage devices that are Sata hard drives and although Scsi drives are still in use the Pata drive has all but been relegated into obsolescence. One of the main reasons for this advantage of Sata hard drives is that they are fast and this is due to the Sata bus and its super speed capability.

There are a group of items that make the Sata hard drive such a fast and reliable storage medium and the main one of these is the actual speed of the Sata bus which with change speeds of up to 300Mb/sec is more than enough to deal with the demands of today's modern applications and is far excellent to the change rates of the more obsolete mediums such as Pata. Of procedure as we the user make even more demands on our hardware and expect such technology levels to produce super rich media content, providing us with extremely involved and realistic video gaming experiences and high definition video then even these high speeds could be pushed to their limits.

Hard Drive

Whilst most consumers find the traditional advantage of Sata hard drives to be the speed and reliability, there are other aspects that are proving useful for the newer types of solid state drives. With more and more modern devices such as laptops and even desktop Pc's now advent with an external Sata or eSata port built in the options for utilising the larger capacity, faster flash thumb drives become ready to us.

Alongside this flexibility that becomes ready for the eSata drives another correction within the Sata specification over the older Pata and Scsi specifications is the positive aspect of the Sata cable and connector designs. The older style flat develop cables of Pata and especially Scsi where cumbersome and difficult to handle, the connectors could well damage the pins that they plugged on to and the size of the cables exiguous and blocked the airflow efficiency of the Pc's chassis. All of these problems have been eliminated with the new develop cables which are slim and the flat style connectors with their L shape make for straightforward and easy association of the device. The cables used on Sata drives are also economy and do not suffer from the length restrictions of the older Pata cables (you could use a Sata cable of up to three feet in length without any degradation of signal).

Another real advantage of Sata is they are what is known in the business as "hot swappable", this effectively means that the hard drive can be removed from and replaced in the principles without having to turn off the power, which is a major advantage if you are utilising distinct data drives for example. (Obviously you would not do this if the drive was the computers boot drive). Sata hard drives are pretty much the de facto thorough now in all Pc's and are more than enough for most users and because of the backward compatibility built into the thorough any hereafter upgrades to it will continue to work with the current Sata hard drives.

Dell Laptop Hard Drive Diagnostics

Most Dell laptop and desktop computers will come with a handy utility already built into them for performing at least some form of basic diagnostics when you need to do a little bit of initial troubleshooting. This report will show you how to test the hard drive which is installed in your Dell laptop or desktop computer.

Some symptoms which should make you intuit that your hard drive is either going bad or has gone bad to some extent include:

Hard Drive

No Post - your laptop or desktop computer just hangs and does nothing when you turn it on. It may sit with the lights on, but do nothing more. It may come on for a incorporate of seconds and then shut itself back off.

Errors - instead of seeing the Windows splash screen after your laptop completes it's Post you get an error which may mention that there is no boot device, or that maybe there is no mountable volume on the drive.

Sluggish performance - Often when a hard drive is failing you will be able to have some form of a heads up about this unfortunate fact by witnessing a noticeable decline in your systems performance when you are literally in the laptop's Os (Operating System).

Windows Warning - Microsoft Windows does have the ability to literally warn you straight through a message which will pop up on your screen letting you know that you should save, then backup all leading data immediately because a hard drive failure is imminent. Now, it is not necessarily a good idea to wait until this message is displayed because often times a hard drive will go wholly bad, unusable, without this warning message ever showing up on your display screen at all.

On your Dell laptop or desktop computer you will likely find a handy utility which will run a quick test on your hard drive for you. This test is very reliable, at least for determining if your hard drive has literally gone bad.

The way you can passage this test is as follows:
Power on your Dell computer, you will see the Dell splash screen, then very briefly you will see a message referring to F2 and F12 in the upper right hand projection of your laptop or desktop screen. The trick is to press the F12 key on your keyboard right when you see the message about F2 and F12 show up in the upper right hand projection of your screen.

This will bring up a Bios boot menu and you will plainly select the one which refers to the hard drive diagnostics. Dissimilar Dell laptop or desktop models will offer Dissimilar choices based on the hard drive being Ide or Sata. Once you have prime your drive the testing will begin. After around two to five minutes or so, depending on the size of your hard drive, you will see the results of the test. The results will either be a Pass, or a fail error code. The thing to remember with the Dell hard drive diagnostics is that a return error code 7 means that your hard drive does literally need to be replaced. Backup any leading data which you may have on your laptop or desktop computer and replace your hard drive.

Computer Hard Drives - Hard Drive Problems and Symptoms

Is your hard drive acting up? Do you fear the loss of data, downtime, and inherent loss of revenue this could bring? Let's take a look at diagnosing hard drive problems, and what the symptoms are.

The surest sign of a major problem is this: when you write data to the disk, and retrieve it later, errors pop up. It might take the form of small amounts of data going missing, or being turned into gibberish. If this happens in more than one program, disk failure looms in the very near future.

Hard Drive

Some users "cure" this problem by reformatting the drive, then re-installing the Os and all programs. Unfortunately, this doesn't accurate the root cause of the trouble, and it will only be a matter of time before it pops up again, perhaps fatally.

Strange noises, particularly high pitched squeaks, are often attributed to the hard drive. In the majority of cases, these squeaks aren't advent from the drive, but from a case fan, or power supply fan.

Listen closely with one of the side panels removed to zero in on the sound. If necessary, unplug the drive's power cable, then turn the computer on. If you still hear the squeak, you know it's a fan. But if the squeak goes away, only to return when you boot the hard drive, you have a very serious problem.

If your hard drive seems to be working too much, constantly chugging away, all the time sending data to and from Ram, the problem isn't your drive. The odds are you need more Ram. Today's giant programs are memory hogs, gigantic in size, creating multi-megabyte files.

If your hard drive is slowing down there are a amount of distinct causes. These won't lead to disk failure, but they can be frustrating.

The first, and easiest to deal with, is drive fragmentation. In Xp and Vista it's easy to defragment a drive, requiring only a few mouse clicks, yet most users let months go by without doing it. They wait until their machines have slowed to a crawl before performing this most basic act of computer maintenance.

Another cause is the volume of data stored there. The more data on the disk, the slower retrieval and write-to rates become. The cure is obvious. Either do a bit of house cleaning, removing unneeded files, or add other drive.

Sometimes, a sluggish hard drive can be a symptom of spyware, adware, or a virus. A good protection program can scan your drive, and tell you if you have one of these problems.

Hard Drives - Size Does Matter, So Does Speed

Hard drives are leading to every computer out there. They are needed to store all the leading data, from the operating theory to the most recent Facebook photo your uploading. They come in all sizes and speeds, yes you can get distinct sizes and speeds of hard drives...

Why does speed matter?
Speed refers to the internal spinning of the drive disk, as the disk spins the eye in the drive reads the data on the disk. The faster the drive spins the disk the faster that the data can be read, interpreted and relayed back to you, so it helps speed up the retrieval of information.

Hard Drive

Some speed options
The most tasteless speed is 7200 Rpms, that means the hard drive is spinning at 7200 revolutions per minute. Pretty quick right? They get faster! drives can speed up to 15,000 Rpms, grabbing data at lightning fast speeds is very possible with these drives, we have even have build computers that will load from pressing the power button to full functional in under 60 seconds. Imagine that being able to press power and in less than a puny your on the internet or play your beloved game! Its possible with modern technology.

Size matters!
Depending on what your using your computer for, the drive size matters. For the midpoint computer user 500 Gb is more than sufficient. If your salvage a lot of movies, or a die hard gamer. 500 Gb might fill up fast. So 1 Tb or more would be better. You can even link any drives together to get more space. Awhile back we build a computer with 8 Tb of warehouse capacity, that is over 1.5 million songs!

What do I need?
Depends on what you want to do, if your just surfing the internet, talking to friends or doing some E-Paper work then you'll be fine with a 120 Gb - 500 Gb drive running 7200 Rpm, depending on how much you save. If your going to be doing programming, web/graphics establish or try to take over the enemies base in the most recent and greatest games, then I would make sure the speed is about 7200 Rpm and size... Well... How many hard drives can you put in your case?

Hard Drive mend Using Free Software

Contrary to popular belief, if a computer does not boot due to hard drive corruption all data is not lost and the hard drive may even be repairable. There are 2 types of hard drive damage. One is fixable by you and the other requires a professional data recovery facility.

Physical Drive Damage - bodily damage is the worst. Data recovery can only be done by professionals and can cost up to ,500 (sometimes higher). bodily damage regularly consists of bad actuator arms, damaged platters or fried controller cards.

Hard Drive

Non-Physical Drive Damage - Non-Physical damage (Npd) is what we're going to be discussing in this article. Npd occurs when the operating system's file ideas (fat or ntfs) gets corrupted due to an improper shutdown (for example). While this damage is may seem genuinely bad (if it's preventing you from booting your Pc), it's genuinely fixable with some software that's already including in any Windows Pc and a Usb external hard drive enclosure.

Here are a list of items that you'll need to result the instructions below:

Another working computer with Windows Xp, Vista or Windows 7
Find out what kind of hard drive you have. There are 2 types. Sata (small flat connector) and Pata (a.k.a Ide) which has a connector with about 30 pins. An external Usb hard drive enclosure with a connector for the type of drive you're going to be connecting to it (you can grab one of these at BestBuy for about Usd).

Please result the steps below to accomplish a non-physical mend (software repair) on a non-bootable hard drive.

1. Take the drive out of the computer.
2. Connect the hard drive to the connector on the Usb enclosure.
3. Connect a Usb cable from the enclosure to the computer that's working.
4. Power on the Usb enclosure.
5. An external drive will probably load in your list of ready hard drives. You can see this list by opening "My Computer" or "Computer". Take note of the drive letter for the external hard drive.
6. Now it's time to load a agenda called Chkdsk (Check Disk).
7. Click Start (if you're on Windows Xp) or click the Windows globe (on the lowest left for Vista and Windows 7).
8. On Windows Xp click Run, then type Cmd. On Windows Vista and 7 type Cmd where it says "Search Programs and Files". This will open a black command prompt window.
9. In the command prompt type chkdsk "the drive letter you want to check": /r and press enter. So here is an example chkdsk g: /r then press the enter key.
10. This process can take hours. I've had a few that took days.
11. If this command completes successfully your drive should be repaired adequate for you to recover the data from it and you might genuinely be able to boot from it again.

A word of warning. If your drive ever has any errors on it (bad sectors) it's reached the end of it's life and should be substituted Asap. You'll be able to see this in the narrative provided to by the chkdsk command at the end of it's scan.

Ata vs Sata

Hard Drives: Ata versus Sata

The doing of computer systems has been steadily addition as faster processors, memory, and video cards are continuously being developed. The one key component that is often neglected when seeing at improving the doing of a computer ideas is the hard drive. Hard drive manufacturers have been enduringly evolving the basic hard drive used in contemporary computer systems for the last 25 years, and the last few years have seen some entertaining developments from faster spindle speeds, larger caches, better reliability, and increased data transmission speeds.

Hard Drive

The drive type used most in buyer grade computers is the hearty Ata type drive (commonly called an Ide drive). The Ata acceptable dates back to 1986 and is based on a 16-bit parallel interface has undergone many evolutions since its introduction to growth the speed and size of the drives that it can support. The latest acceptable is Ata-7 (first introduced in 2001 by the T13 Technical Committee (the group responsible for the Ata standard)) which supports data change rates up to 133Mb/sec. This is expected to be the last update for the parallel Ata standard.

As long ago as 2000 it was seen that the parallel Ata acceptable was maxing out its limitations as to what it could handle. With data rates hitting the 133Mb/sec mark on a parallel cable, you are entertaining all sorts of problems because of signal timing, Emi (electromagnetic interference) and other data integrity issues; thus commerce leaders got together and came up with a new acceptable known as Serial Ata (Sata). Sata has only been colse to a few years, but is destined to come to be "the standard" due to several benefits to be addressed in this Tech Tip.

The two technologies that we will be seeing at are:
Ata (Advanced Technology Attachment) - a 16-bit parallel interface used for controlling computer drives. Introduced in 1986, it has undergone many evolutions in the last 18+ years, with the latest version being called Ata-7. Wherever an item is referred to as being an Ata device, it is ordinarily a Parallel Ata device. Ata devices are also ordinarily called Ide, Eide, Ultra-Ata, Ultra-Dma, Atapi, Pata, etc. (each of these acronyms nothing else but do refer to very specific items, but are ordinarily interchanged)
Sata (Serial advanced Technology Attachment) - a 1-bit serial evolution of the Parallel Ata bodily storehouse interface.

Basic Features & Connections

Sata drives are easy to distinguish from their Ata cousins by the different data and power connections found on the back of the drives. A side-by-side comparison of the two interfaces can be seen in this Pdf from Maxtor, and the following covers many of the differences...

Standard Ata drives, such as this 200Gb Western Digital model, have somewhat bulky, two inch wide ribbon cable with 40-pin data connections and receive the 5V necessary to power them from the familiar 4-pin connection. The basic data cables for these drives have looked the same for years. A convert was made with the introduction of the Ata-5 acceptable to better heighten the signal ability by making an 80 wire cable used on the 40-pin connector (these are ordinarily called 40-pin/80-wire cables). To heighten airflow within the computer ideas some manufacturers resorted to nothing else but folding over the ribbon cable and taping it into that position. Another modern bodily convert also came with the coming of rounded cables. The doing of the rounded cables is equal to that of the flat ribbon, but many prefer the improved ideas air flow afforded, ease of wire management, and cooler appearance that come with them.

Sata drives, such as this 120Gb Western Digital model, have a half inch wide, 7 "blade and beam" data connection, which results in a much thinner and easier to conduct data cable. These cables take the convenience of the Ata rounded cables to the next level by being even narrower, more flexible and capable of being longer without fear of data loss. Sata cables have a maximum length of 1 meter (39.37 inches), which is much greater than the recommended 18 inch cable for Ata drives. The reduced footprint of Sata data connections frees up space on motherboards, potentially allowing for more suitable layouts and room for more onboard features!

A 15-pin power association delivers the 250mV of necessary power to Sata drives. 15-pins for a Sata device sounds like it would require a much larger power cable than a 4-pin Ata device, but in reality the two power connectors are just about the same height. For the time being, many Sata drives are also coming with a heritage 4-pin power connector for convenience.

Many contemporary motherboards, such as this Chaintech motherboard, come with Sata drive connections onboard (many also along with the Ata connectors as well for heritage drive compatibility), and new power supplies, such as this Ultra X-Connect, ordinarily feature a few of the necessary 15-pin power connections, making it easy to use these drives on new systems. Older systems can nothing else but be upgraded to preserve Sata drives by use of adapters, such as this Pci slot Sata controller and this 4-pin to 15-pin Sata power adapter.

Optical drives are also becoming more easily available with Sata connections. Drives such as the Plextor Px-712Sa take benefit of the new interface, although the doing will not be any greater than a comparable optical drive with an Ata connection.

Performance

In addition to being more suitable to setup and drawing less power, Sata drives have doing benefits that nothing else but set them apart from Ata drives.

The most entertaining doing feature of Sata is the maximum bandwidth possible. As we have noted, the evolution of Ata drives has seen the data change rate reach its maximum at 133 Mb/second, where the current Sata acceptable provides data transfers of up to 150 Mb/second. The farranging doing growth of Sata over Ata can currently be expected to be up to 5% (according to Seagate), but improvements in Sata technology will nothing else but heighten on that.

The future of Sata holds great things for those wanting even more speed, as drives with 300 Mb/second change rates (Sata Ii) will be easily available in 2005, and by 2008 speeds of up to 600 Mb/second can be expected. Those speeds are incredible, and are hard to dream at this point.

Another doing benefit found on Sata drives is their built-in hot-swap capabilities. Sata drives can be brought on and offline without shutting down the computer system, providing a serious benefit to those who can't afford downtime, or who want to move drives in and out of doing quickly. The higher estimate of wires in the power association is partially explained by this, as six of the fifteen wires are dedicated to allowing the hot-swap feature.

Price

Comparing Ata drives to Sata drives can be tricky given all of the variables, but in normal it is the case that Sata drives will still cost just a bit more than a comparable Ata drive. The gap is conclusion rapidly though, and as Sata drives gain in popularity and availability a safe bet shift in prices can be expected. considering the benefits of Sata over Ata, the potential divergence of a few dollars can nothing else but be justified when considering an upgrade. Computer Geeks currently has a petite selection of Sata drives, but several technical sites, such as The Tech Zone and The Tech Lounge, offer real time price guides to see how comparable drives stack up.

Final Words

The current Sata acceptable provides necessary benefits over Ata in terms of convenience, power consumption and, most importantly, performance. The main thing Ata has going for it right now is history, as it has been the acceptable for so long that it will not likely disappear any time soon. The future of Sata will be even more entertaining as speed increases will help hard drive improvement keep pace with other key ideas components.
